We found Malik after we left the temple. Kevin also returned from scouting. No signs of the tieflings yet, which I guess is comforting. Unfortunately, Amatus was called away by Father Dake to help assist with a birth on a farmstead. Benmor went with him just in case something happened.
Darvin and I pointed out the last step that was trapped. Actually, I don't know if it's still trapped, or if it could only happen once. I'm not willing to test it. Anyway, we entered the main room and Malik immediately started using magic. I guess he doesn't care since we all already know? We continued to the room with the statue of a woman. There were two others in it. All of them looked like queens or something. There was another tapestry here. Like the big one, it still looked new, but it showed a complete picture. There was a group of people leaving a land by ship. That voice appeared again and said "We were five great kingdoms." Looking closely, we were able to see two other people with crowns in the tapestry. It looked like they were the one who were watching over and leading the people leaving. On a whim, I went back and looked at the main tapestry. On the piece that had appeared, there was only one crowned person when the ships were hit with lightning and the fighting with the halflings happened.
We decided to leave the queen room alone and followed the last hallway. It opened into a room kind of like the halfling one. Except it was a treetop forest village instead of burrows. The voice appeared and spoke about a conflict with the "treedwellers" over lumber. Then undead elves appeared just like the halflings. I'm not extremely comfortable with how casually I can recall a fight against dead creatures that have been brought back. The fight was quick and the biggest thing that happened was when some of us were pulled off the ledge into the pit of spikes that covered the bottom of the room. One of them had an extremely ornate bow. I gave it to Kevin. There was also a chest on the ground across the room surrounded by spikes. It took a long time, but we eventually got it across the room and up the ladder.
We entered the main room again and saw that more of the tapestry had been revealed. It depicted the fight with the elves and whoever built this temple. Each room seems to show more of the tapestry. Whatever is hiding within the central pillar probably needs all five parts shown. We took another rest and scrounged around the areas we'd already explored. There were a lot of potions tucked away in nooks and crannies. The bow is magical, and inside the chest was a pair of magic boots.
After the rest, we returned to the queen room. Each of the three statues could be rotated. All three of the queens looked somber, and eventually we figured out that by facing them away from the other two leaving by ship was what whatever magic that worked in this place wanted. There was also a magical backpack in the base of one of the statues. The third piece of the tapestry showed a mass of mounted humans leaving their horses to the plains and beginning to construct ships.
The last two places left were the forge and the statuary room. We decided to enter the forge. Once completely inside, I realized that the ash that covered the ground was charred bone. We were all nervous, but I stepped forward and grabbed the hammer. Nothing happened, but I felt a desire to strike the anvil. Before I did that, we looked through the potions we'd found and used some that help ward off fire. When the anvil was struck, all four forges lit themselves. Out of them crawled several burning dwarf skeletons. I suppose they're better than undead? As with the other rooms, we were fighting for our lives. Something I discovered, the skeletons. The explode when they die. Re-die? Un-die? The forges also exploded, though they gave a bit of warning. Fortunately, Darvin and Malik went down just as the fighting was finishing, so the forges died down. The voice spoke of them wanting the metals of the mountains, fighting against the dwarves, and the humans building a massive empire.
When we got everyone on their feet, we decided that it would be best to leave the temple and come back later with Amatus and Benmor. While there is only the statuary room, which I think is like the queen room and we won't have to fight anything, Malik is worried that there may be some final guardian in the main hall. It is a sensible fear, but I hope he's wrong.
